Moving Forward

Hello everyone!

If you were keeping up with my previous posts you’ll know that I set a goal for myself to finish my third draft of my screen play The Messenger by January 1st. A complete rewrite of the script.

Well, you will all be happy to know that I succeeded! Huzzah!

However, if you were also keeping up with my previous post, you’ll know that I promised a new excerpt from my updated draft. That I didn’t succeed at- UNTIL TODAY.

The Messenger, Dragon Chase

I’m not sure what happened to the embedding between Issuu and WordPress but I unfortunately can’t figure it out for the life of me.

But I did not spend the month of January pouting at the computer screen. Since my original third draft was completed I’ve had a table reading and, separately, a few people read The Messenger. I’m very blessed to have so many people who are so supportive!

At this point I feel that The Messenger is on draft 3.4 in reality. I cannot tell you how happy I am to be where I am with this draft. I feel that the things I really want to say are finally starting to come through. Is my script ready to ship out yet? Not quite but not long now, hopefully.

So, moving forward, I’ve started brainstorming a new script concept. A dark-fantastical family film. The protagonists of this concept have a parent in the military and being that I’ve neither of my parents are in the armed forces, I needed some reference. I’d like to thank my friend Josh Reynolds for his help the other day in this endeavor.

More importantly you should check out Josh’s Work, you won’t regret it.

Last but not least I wish each and every one of you a marvelously Happy New Year!

All my love,

A Deadline to Keep

If any of you have been keeping up with my blogs you’ll come to realize that I haven’t. It saddens me to see that I haven’t kept up with my short story a day project, but I’ve also accepted that with a job and being a responsible adult comes priorities and little projects must be put on hold.

I have, however, been working on a project that is of the utmost importance and I have given myself a deadline. By no later than January 1st 2013 I will have the third draft of The Messenger completed and of course a new sample for you all to read on my Portfolio page. I have already finished editing my second draft in red pen (I do love a good ol’ red pen edit) and have started the infamous from-scratch rewrite.

I hope you are looking forward to this as much as I am! And of course afterwards I will decide if this is indeed the final draft or a time to take a step back and work on other exciting projects.

Thanks for checking in! Happy Holidays everyone!

All my love,

Learn and Grow

I’m here to announce my newest little project. Every day for one hour I do nothing but type a short story. It doesn’t matter what I type, it doesn’t even matter if the story has a proper conclusion. All that matters is that I wrote as creatively as I could within one hour.
I’ve already launched the project on both Blogger and Tumblr and I like the little collection I have going thus far. To be honest I got the idea from a profess I had in college. I didn’t altogether like that professor very well, but I did enjoy the writing exercises we did and I learned that sometimes some really great stories can come out of a brief moment in time.
I hope that pushing myself to write the best story possible within the limited time frame I have given myself can push my skills to grow.
So please! Check them out here:

Being New

You know what stinks? Being new. No one knows you or what you’re capable of.  They don’t want to take a chance on you because you might fall short of making it. You know what’s even worse than being new? Being a new  writer. People have to actually read your stuff if they want to see if you’ve got something worth showing.

You know what’s really awesome? Being new. No one knows you or what you’re capable of. They just might want to take a chance on you because you might just have what it takes to make it. You know that’s even better than being new? Being a new  writer. People have to actually read your stuff if they want to see if you’ve got something worth showing.

That means they are given an opportunity to become so enchanted with your works that they just can’t turn you away.

… Well, that should work in theory.

Parallelism is nice, though, isn’t it?

But hello! I’m Bernadette O’Keeffe and if you haven’t guessed, I’m a writer, for better or for worse. Go ahead and explore a bit! My portfolio is here so feel free to check it out.

Thanks for checking in! Take care!
